Nursing school is expensive. That’s why we think it’s outrageous when publishers decide to charge thousands of dollars for educational material (it’s also why we priced ChartFlow at $15/student).

Once you’ve already done the classwork, reviewed the flashcards, and aced your in-school exams, it’s time to practice, practice, practice by reviewing NCLEX style questions.

Below, we’ve organized free NCLEX style question banks by quantity. The top listings will give you the most bang for your zero bucks, whereas the last listings have limited free content.

NursesLabs - This site provides forever-free test prep. No sign up, no payment needed. Just click on the link, and scroll down to see a list of 12 quizzes, each with 75 NCLEX style questions. Scroll down a little further and find hundreds of general quiz questions by nursing topic.
Nursing.com - Build your own exam by picking questions from a few dozen topics. This site also has free study tools and study plans to help you prepare.
Mometrix - We’re including this high on the quantity list even though it only has one practice exam. That’s because you can choose between taking the exam, doing NCLEX-RN flashcards, or viewing an NCLEX study guide. Since flashcards are really just mini-tests, we’re going to count them :)
Practice the NCLEX RN-Exam for Free - This website has 8 exams with 30-50 questions each divided by NCLEX topic. You can pay for premium and get more, but the amount of free content is impressive. Scroll down on the page and find written information that explains the NCLEX exam, testing strategies, and more.
Varsity Tutors - 5 exams with 75 questions each. These quizzes also give you diagnostic information afterwards so you know what subject you need to practice.
Nurse Plus Academy - Nurse Plus has dozens of tests to help you prepare for the NCLEX if you’re willing to pay for their premium subscription. However, it also has a few hundred total questions listed for free. Simply click the link, and find any exams without the gray padlock icon in the top right – you’ll be able to use those without signing up.
12 Free Questions from The Princeton Review - The Princeton Review normally charges for their exam prep, but this link will show you 4 videos on how to approach NCLEX questions as well as 12 questions to practice with. The videos on this page alone are worth a visit, but having such a small sample of questions is more practical for judging if you want to use their review services or not.
6 Free Next Generation NCLEX question by Kaplan - Of course Kaplan isn’t going to give you an entire sample test for free, but they will give you 6 NGN style questions with feedback. If you’ve already studied, but you want to make sure you’re comfortable with the new NCLEX format, this small sampling of questions might help.
