The podcasts below are a great way to review material or kill time while commuting to school. We especially like these for auditory learnings who need a little more description to make things stick.
Good Nurse Bad Nurse
Unlike the other podcasts on this list that are primarily learning focused, this podcast puts nursing related entertainment and storytelling first. Imagine sitting around the break room and hearing veteran nurses share their best and worst moments – that’s what every episode of this show is like. Some of the stories represent guest’s high moments, others represent the bad, the scary, and the traumatizing. Overall, it’s a great look into the profession and an easy way to immerse yourself in the world of nursing while you’re still in school.
Straight A Nursing
These 20-30 minute episodes are structured a bit more like lectures. If you’re looking to learn or review a specific topic, this is the place to go. If you search their website instead of Apple Podcasts or Spotify, they sort episodes by topic, so you can use these as study guides for Med Surg or Nursing Fundamentals alongside your regular coursework.
Rapid Response RN
This podcast is a fan favorite. Sarah Lorenzini RN uses stories to teach nursing skills in an hour or less. She has a knack for entertaining listeners with real life tales while simultaneously challenging you to think through a scenario. We love all the guests she brings on, and the high quality production makes this a great option for long car rides or listening during lunch. For people who have a hard time paying attention during straightforward, facts-only lectures, we highly recommend this podcast as an entertaining review source.
Nursing Mnemonics Podcast
This podcast by NURSING.com specializes in episodes 5 minutes or less. Each one covers a single mnemonic for everything from drug interactions to activities of daily living. While we wouldn’t recommend binge-listening these since it’d be memory overload, reviewing one in between lectures or right before an exam is a great way to exercise your memory. As part of yoru NCLEX prep, it can help to schedule one or two of these a day.
The Nursing Student Diaries
Tiffany Gossai RN covers everything your instructors don’t. She acts as a cheerleader and life coach for anyone struggling through nursing school. The episodes tend to be 10-20 minutes and listening to one feels more like talking to a helpful friend rather than trying to slog through educational content.
